Understanding Funding Rate Statistics

Overview

This panel summarizes a symbol's settled funding history over the selected lookback window (7 or 30 days). It combines the symbol's own distribution with a market-wide comparison so you can see whether the current rate is unusual, how persistent it has been, and how volatile it is. Statistics describe the past and are not a forecast.

Key Metrics Explained

Market Percentile (P0-P100)

Compares this symbol's current rate against the latest rate of every other symbol in the snapshot table. The card is hidden when the market sample is too small (fewer than 30 symbols) to be meaningful.

• P95+: Extremely high rate - top 5% of market
• P80-P95: Above average - top 20% of market
• P20-P80: Normal range - no strong signal
• P5-P20: Below average - bottom 20% of market
• P0-P5: Extremely low rate - bottom 5% of market

Historical Percentile (P0-P100)

Compares the current rate against this symbol's own settlements during the lookback period.

• P80+: Unusually high for THIS symbol
• P20-P80: Typical for this symbol
• P0-P20: Unusually low for THIS symbol

Current Streak

Consecutive settlements with the same sign, counted back from the most recent one. Rates within ±0.0001% are treated as neutral and extend the current streak rather than breaking it.

• Positive streak: Longs paying shorts consistently
• Negative streak: Shorts paying longs consistently
• Longer streak: More persistent trend - but persistence is not a guarantee

Volatility Tier

This symbol's rate standard deviation compared against the market distribution of per-symbol volatility. The card is hidden when the market pool is too small or the distribution collapses.

• Tier 1 (LOW): Std dev ≤ market P25 - stable rates
• Tier 2 (MEDIUM): Between market P25 and P75 - normal volatility
• Tier 3 (HIGH): Std dev > market P75 - unpredictable rates, use caution

Reading the Distribution Bar

The Funding Rate Distribution bar is a percentile scale: the left edge is the symbol's lowest settlement (P0) and the right edge its highest (P100). Ticks mark P5, P25, P50, P75 and P95, with the rate at each percentile printed below.

• Current marker: the vertical line and pulsing dot show where the current rate sits, labelled with the rate and its historical percentile (e.g. 0.0123% · P87).
• Flat top (shaded band): when 25% or more of the window's settlements sit at the observed maximum, the rightmost slice is shaded with diagonal stripes. Discrete rates often repeat a default/neutral value, which collapses the upper percentiles onto the same number; the band shows how much of the distribution that repeated maximum is, so a flat scale is not misread as broken.
• Middle 90% vs full range: P5-P95 covers the middle 90% of periods; rates outside that band appear only in the "Full range" figure. The caption under the bar reports the P5-P95 range, the full range, and the flat-top share when present.

Metrics Used

Metric	What It Measures
Market Percentile	Is the current rate unusual vs all symbols?
Historical Percentile	Is the current rate unusual for THIS symbol's own history?
Streak Count	How many consecutive settlements share the same sign?
Volatility Tier	Is rate volatility low, medium or high vs the market?
Percentiles (P5-P95)	The rate at each point of this symbol's own distribution.
Flat-top share	How much of the window sits at the repeated maximum.
Rate change (24h / 7d)	Funding rate now vs 24h / 7d ago, in percentage points.
Predicted rate / APY	Next settlement's rate from the premium index, annualized.
Periods analysed	Number of settlements in the lookback window.

Data Source & Freshness

• Live settlements (green badge): computed directly from Binance settled funding history, one row per funding period — the correct basis for percentiles, streaks and rate changes.
• Snapshot fallback (amber badge): used only when live history is unavailable or too short; it is labelled as predicted because snapshots can include unsettled rates.
• Updated shows the age of the latest settlement; a stale warning appears once it is older than one funding interval plus an hour. The lookback selector switches the window between 7 and 30 days.

Risk Warning

Statistics describe past behaviour and do not predict the future. Extreme rates can persist longer than expected, and funding direction can flip. Always size positions for the possibility of an adverse move.
